More Legal Bollocks

So I've just found another funny letter while writing my last blog about debt collectors. This one is from the solicitor of some bevan who wrote off his car and nearly killed his girlfriend when he drove into us on a mountain road. They were both very shaken by the accident. She was crying and he just kept apologising.

"Well at least he admits it was his fault", I thought. Right? Wrong. Here is an excerpt of the letter we received a few weeks later:

Our instructions are that on [date] a Toyota Land Cruiser motor vehicle driven by you collided with our client's vehicle on the wrong side of the Kenilworth - Maleny Road, causing extensive damage to our client's vehicle.

Our client consequently holds you responsible for that damage and has obtained two repair quotations together with a third quotation which indicated that his vehicle is so extensively damaged as to make any repairs uneconomical.

We are instructed by our client to demand payment from you of the amount of $4,480.70 representing the cost of repairs to his vehicle according to the lowest of the quotations in settlement of his claim. Further, we are also instructed that if your cheque for that amount is not received by us by 5.00 pm on [date] we are to institute proceedings forthwith for recovery against you.

What a tosser! He even rang me to wish me luck for the 'court case'.

This guy nearly kills his girlfriend because he was driving too fast, and then wants me to pay to get his car fixed? And I should be grateful that he only wants $4,500 rather than a whole new car?

Looking back on it, I just can't believe it. But at the time I remember being very worried. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he didn't get any money and now I'm (far) less vulnerable to scare tactics.
